Frequently asked questions

Everything people ask us about M-Wew.

What is M-Wew?

M-Wew is one wallet for the African diaspora. Send money inside your country, send across East Africa, receive with your pay code or QR, and take till payments if you run a business.

How much does it cost to send money?

1.5% when you send in the same currency and 3% when the transfer crosses currencies. The exact fee and the amount the other person receives are shown before you confirm — never after.

Which exchange rate do I get?

The live market rate, refreshed from a market data feed every hour. The rate you see on the send screen is the rate applied to your transfer.

How do I receive money?

Share your M-Wew pay code or phone number, or show your QR from the Receive tab. Money sent to you lands in your wallet instantly.

Can I add money by card?

Yes. The Top up button on your wallet takes card payments through Paystack. Top-ups are available for KES, NGN, GHS, ZAR and USD wallets, and your balance updates as soon as the payment clears.

How do till payments work for my business?

Open the Till tab, register your business name and you get a till number and QR straight away. Customers pay by till number or by scanning your QR, and the day's takings are totalled for you.

Which countries and currencies are supported?

East Africa: Kenya (KES), Tanzania (TZS), Uganda (UGX), Rwanda (RWF), Burundi (BIF), South Sudan (SSP), Ethiopia (ETB), Somalia (SOS) and DR Congo (CDF). Diaspora wallets: USD, GBP, EUR and CAD.

Is my money safe?

Every transfer is a single protected operation — the sender is only debited if the recipient is credited, and both sides get a receipt. You sign in with your own account and only you can see your wallet.
